As a kid, I always loved Halloween. It’s the only night every year that you can be anything you want to be without being judged. As an adult, I still love Halloween. I love the days leading up to it and the actual day itself. There is a combination of spookiness and fun in the air that makes everyone smile and have fun, no matter what is going on in their lives. When KP told me that she wanted to write a book about Halloween night, I was very excited.
Why was I so excited? Because I knew it would be a book that would tie in the fun of Halloween with an important lesson for kids. What better lesson to learn around Halloween than to not judge someone by the little bit that you know about them? If we all judged someone by what we saw from the outside, no one would have any friends. We all spend so much time trying to please others and mold into what they want us to be that we forget to let loose and just be “us.” This is why I love Halloween so much.
Costumes and Decorations
There is no other holiday that encourages everyone to decorate their house and dress up exactly how they want and have one big party on Halloween night. This is the one holiday that it is okay to bring out the kid in everyone, playing bobbing for apples or wrap the mummy. These games are still around and very popular, believe it or not! Everyone can wear costumes, even the adults and bring out their inner child. Whether you choose to dress up as a childhood favorite character or something that you have recently become obsessed with, I encourage you to have fun!
How will you Celebrate?
How will you celebrate Halloween? Will you dress in your favorite costume and go trick-or-treating with the kids or will you host a Halloween party? Remember, you do not have to have kids to celebrate; you can celebrate Halloween, just like the neighbor in KP Baker’s book. Halloween is a holiday that everyone can celebrate and have fun, no matter what their circumstance in life may be.
My invitation to you is to go out and have fun this Halloween. Take a stroll around your neighborhood and delight in all of the spooky and not-so-spooky decorations, go shopping for the perfect Halloween costume or host a big Halloween party. It’s a night that is meant to be filled with fun. I hope that you make the most of your night.
