Super Bowl weekend is here! This is a time that many of us fondly look forward to, whether a football fanatic or not. For kids, though, it might not be as exciting, especially if they do not understand football. Sure, they might get excited about a few commercials that have a cute dog or horse, but other than that, they are bored. Here are a few ways to rev up their excitement for this fun tradition!
What better way to make the Super Bowl fun than by reading a book about football. In my book, “Football Fun with Jake: The Rookie Football Season” kids can learn about the excitement of football, being on a team and cheering for someone. After you read the book together, you can talk about the tradition of football and the Super Bowl together, helping your child understand its importance in our society and how you can incorporate it into their lives. When kids grow up with a Super Bowl tradition, they tend to carry it on in their own lives when they grow up.
Host your Own Super Bowl
If you really want to shake things up, you can host your own Super Bowl for your child’s friends. Let them play a friendly football game out in the yard with moms and dads cheering them on! Even the most fearful child will want to join in on the neighborhood fun, just like Jake does in “Football Fun with Jake.”
Have Plenty of Food
Of course, what is the Super Bowl without lots of delicious food? Make sure to take the time to make some of the food child friendly to get the kids involved. You can even allow your children to assist you in the preparations to create another family tradition and make it even more fun for kids. Make sure to include a few treats that are not always readily offered to make the time even more fun for your kids.
The Super Bowl is a time of family, friends and fun, with of course a little football mixed into it. Even if you are not a diehard football fan or your favorite team did not make it this year, it is a day to spend having a little fun. When you include the kids in on your fun by reading them books about football, letting them celebrate in their own way and providing them with delicious treats, it is sure to be a fun event for everyone, making it a tradition that will last for many years to come.
